 لم يتخلى عن التفكير فى نخطيط الميزانية

BALANCING THE BOOKS A group of five notes related to economic issues, in which Nasser calculated the price of basic staples such as tea, sugar, cooking oil, meat and fuul. In bold handwriting the late president shows he obviously poured over the price of "imported seeds" which he had estimated at LE100 million and thought up "suggestions" such as "importing 1,000 tons of wheat." He notes that, "losses are not allowed for flour, and customs are to be cancelled." On occasion, Nasser jotted down some of his thoughts in English such as the reference to the "construction of Socialism," which was relevant for some reason, as he continued to deliberate on issues of agricultural policy, the five year plan and principles of consumption. In yet another of these "economic" notes, Nasser calculates "unanticipated expenses" at LE40 million as well as sums of money related to government expenditures (LE11,000), and foreign experts (8 million). Disparate jottings such as "civil servants without work/distribution of profits/wage policy/prices" followed by an obscure reference to the, "cultural revolution -- China, Korea" give some indication as to Nasser's frame of mind. All in all, these notes in particular show how pre-occupied Nasser was with the social aspects of development, down to the last piastre citizens would wind up paying for basics.
